Thyroid problems arise out of thyroid gland malfunctioning. Thyroid gland is located in front part of neck, underneath thyroid cartilage. The gland produces thyroid hormones that regulate the body’s metabolism, growth of tissues, energy levels and usage of other hormones. The hormone synthesis begins in the hypothalamus of brain. The hypothalamus releases TRH or thyrotropin-releasing hormone. TRH travels to pituitary gland activating it to release TSH or thyroid stimulating hormone in to blood. The TSH again stimulates thyroid glands to produce the necessary hormones T4 or L-thyroxine and T3 or Triiodothyronine.
